Finding a Plant-Based Practitioner

So you’re on board with plant-based eating. You’ve read the research, maybe even started your journey. Now you want a healthcare provider who understands.

Here are some resources to help you find a provider who supports plant-based eating:

Searchable Databases

Plant-based Docs

Plant-based Docs is part of The Plantrician Project, whose mission is to educate and empower healthcare providers about the value of plant-based nutrition. You can search this directory by location and/or specialty, including allied health professionals, like Trimazing! Health & Lifestyle Coaching. This list includes both in-person and telehealth providers who are vetted by The Plantrician Project.

Find a Doctor

Find a Doctor is another searchable directory, created by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. They vet all providers in the list and you can search either by location and telehealth providers, then broken down by distance and/or specialty. Note, this list does not include allied health professionals.

Nutritional Science Health Practitioners

Nutritional Science Health Practitioners is part of the Nutrition Science Foundation, hosted by Tanner Research, Inc. Their mission is to provide information supporting the benefits of healthy plant-based eating. You can search their directory by location and specialty and indicate if you’re looking specifically for Medicare-Only practitioners. This database includes allied health professionals as well.

Find a Lifestyle Medicine Clinician

Find a Lifestyle Medicine Clinician includes members of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. While these providers may not be 100% plant-based, they support the 6 Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine, which includes a predominantly plant-based dietary pattern, and are supportive of a plant-based diet. You can filter by clinician type and location to find in-person and telehealth providers, including allied health professionals.

Vegetarians of Washington Supporting Physicians

If you live in Washington State, Vegetarians of Washington has a list of physicians they know support plant-based eating in Washington, either as speakers at past Vegfests or who have supported the Prescribe Vegetarian Campaign. This is not a searchable database, but a list of physicians in alphabetical order, and includes their specialty. They do not provide contact information and there is no date of when the list was last updated, so I don’t know how current it is. It only lists MD, DO, and ND, no allied health.

Plant-Based Providers and Practices

Here are some providers and practices on the Trimazing! referral list, in no particular order. Many of these are also included in the above listed databases.

  1. Plant-Based Telehealth
  2. Barnard Medical Center Telemedicine
  3. Mora Medical (telehealth)
  4. Kristi Moffat, MD, Evergreen (WA) Health, Family Medicine
  5. Vladislava Zvigilsky, DO, Kaiser Permanente, Redmond, WA, Family Medicine
  6. Nancy B. Isenberg, MD, Swedish Medical Center for Healthy Aging, Seattle, WA, Neurology
  7. Rhea Abbott, ND, Euvis Deep Medicine, Kenmore, WA, Lifestyle and Sleep Medicine (telehealth)
  8. Madalina Petrescu, MD, Swedish Medical Center Heart and Vascular, Cardiology
  9. Darin Eckert, MD, MultiCare, Spokane, WA, Family Medicine
  10. Amy BonDurant, MD, MSNE, Providence Regional Cancer Partnership, Everett, WA, Gynecologic Oncology

I hope this gives you a great starting place for finding a healthcare provider who aligns best with your goals and needs.
